Ornitholidays has been visiting Australia for the last 25 years and we have had a number of different itineraries over this time. For this year we have put together a tour of three distinct areas, all on the eastern side of Queensland, which offers a variety of habitats and highlights. We start in Cairns, with its famous esplanade, which is an amazing place to watch shorebirds and waterbirds at close range. We visit one of the offshore islands within the Great Barrier Reef to look for nesting seabirds and then there is the lowland rainforest as well as a river trip and the chance to go spotlighting for night birds and marsupials. We then travel to Cape York where we can spot species that can only be found in this remote peninsula, such a Palm Cockatoo and Magnificent Riflebird. The tour finale is at the incomparable O'Reilly's Guesthouse, which has become one of the best birding sites in Australia, with hand-tame Crimson Rosellas and King Parrots as well as scarce species like Albert's Lyrebird, Regent Bowerbird and Sooty Owl. Throughout the tour we shall have the expert guidance of Jun Matsui who has been leading tours in Australia for the  few years. Our airfare allows certain stop-overs and extensions and we would be happy to organise these for you. Travel with us to the land down-under for an unforgettable experience. |
